The summer transfer window officially opens in a week’s time and Bristol City have made good early progress.

Not only has the club wrapped up two deals and tied down Timm Klose for the next year (with an option for the year after that too), but so far the Robins have shown that it’s not necessary to fork out fees to secure good players.

Both Mark Sykes and Kal Naismith have arrived early in the window and for free, in plenty of time to enjoy a full pre-season under manager Nigel Pearson when the West Country side head on their travels later this month to warm up for the 2022/23 season.

The next campaign begins earlier this year due to the winter World Cup in Qatar, on the final weekend of July.

The Robins remain active in the transfer market for more recruits with a defensive midfielder high on the agenda.

Antoine Semenyo Ghana knock

One rumour doing the rounds on Friday evening was that Bristol City forward Antoine Semenyo has left the Ghana international camp.

Reports from Ghana explained that rather because of an injury, it was to return to the UK to complete a transfer away from Ashton Gate, as the final stages of a switch are completed.

BristolWorld understands that the player has left the Ghana camp but a transfer is not close. In fact there is no advanced negotiations with any club, despite interest in the newly fledged international forward, who made his debut for the Black Stars in midweek against Madagascar.

In fact, the player has picked up a minor knock and will miss the next games for Otto Addo’s side, with the aim to be back in action soon after some good rest.

That will be music to the ears of Bristol City fans everywhere. Although there is Premier League interest in the 22-year-old, it looks more likely that Semenyo will remain at Ashton Gate this summer as things stand, though there is a long way to go in the transfer market yet.

Scott has big interest however

Meanwhile, attacking midfielder Alex Scott has big interest in him and a transfer elsewhere cannot be discounted this summer just yet, despite signing a long-term deal last August.

Scott is contracted until 2025 but BristolWorld understands that there is significant interest in the player, and it is building - and there is a chance that a Premier League club may meet Bristol City’s asking price this summer.

The 18-year-old has flourished in 2021/22 and the England youth international has a whole host of top tier teams interested in him. First-team football is important to the player however, and unless a move offfers that then Scott may yet remain at Ashton Gate.

Marlon Pack latest

Bristol City remain in the transfer market for a defensive midfielder this summer, and have spoken to several players with the aim of adding to their midfield ranks. A contract offer remains on the table for Andy King.

Regarding further additions, BristolWorld has been told that a move for ex-Bristol City player Marlon Pack - first reported by Bristol Live - is highly unlikely to be successful. The former Cardiff City midfielder is available on a free transfer and has recently been undertaking his coaching badges in the FAW region.

Although at this point a return to Ashton Gate for the former Portsmouth man is not dead, Pack has several other offers that may entice the 31-year-old more.

The club is still waiting for an answer from Robbie Cundy on his contract offer, although - as reported previously - the central defender has several other interested clubs waiting in the wings.

The Robins may recruit another centre-back, with talks having taken place with Northampton Town’s Fraser Horsfall.

Bristol City are expected to release their new kit for the next season on Monday evening.
