Bristol City are reportedly involved in a battle amongst their league rivals to sign Motherwell’s in-form striker Tony Watt.

The January transfer window is just a few weeks from opening and we could see some transfer business from City, though it could be dependent on getting players out first.

CEO Richard Gould has previously stated that the search for a striker could be a priority and Watt fits the bill.

A report from Football League World says that the Robins, as well as Championship rivals Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers, and Preston North End, will all make a move for the forward.

The 27-year-old’s contract talks with his current club have stalled and it is understood that what is on the table from them doesn’t compare to what the four English teams could offer.

This season, Watt has scored nine goals in 19 league appearances, ranking him the top scorer of the division.

From those statistics, he averages a goal every 168 minutes, has a goal conversion rate of 31% and a shot accuracy rate of 72%.

Watt has been at Motherwell for the last two-and-a-half seasons but only mustered up nine goals, but this season he has started well and has already matched his career best for  season.

Should City pursue a move then they would be getting a striker which already has experience playing in England, playing for Charlton Athletic, Cardiff City and lastly Blackburn Rovers.

He was let go however to Belgian side Lierse, where he scored 10 goals in 16 matches, however he fell out of favour with them over public comments by manager Stanley Menzo.

His form caught the attention of Standard Liege, but after just half-a-season, he was sold to Charlton.

He started well with the Addicks, scoring five goals in the second-half of the season but was let go on a temporary basis to Cardiff and Blackburn in the following season. Watt would then play the first half of the 2016/17 season but again be loaned out, this ime to Heart of Midlothian.

A permanent move to Belgian then took place joining OH Leuven but his stay was another short one and he returned to Scotland, joining St Johnstone for a season. Watt would feature heavily for Johnstone and scored eight goals, which saw him earn a move to Bulgarian outfit CSKA Sofia.

Watt played the first half of the 2019/20 season with them but was let go due to personal reasons, he subsequently joined Motherwell in February 2020.
