Another Bristol City summer departee has found a new club following their exit from Ashton Gate.

Recently released Bristol City midfielder Josh Owers has found a new team following his exit from the club.

Owers, the son of Robins hero Gary, who made more than 130 appearances for the club, was one of nine players that weren't kept on for another season. The 21-year-old didn't make a senior appearance for City, but was a leading figure for their Under-21's team.

His performances for City's development team, has allowed him to find a new club quickly, with his transfer future now sorted. He has joined Yeovil Town - of whom he was on loan with last season. Owers played two league games for the troubled Glovers as they were relegated from the National League, and after new owners were appointed and Mark Cooper was kept on as manager, the midfielder is part of their rebuild as they assemble a squad capable of getting back to the fifth tier at the first time of asking.

He has put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal at Huish Park, and reunites with Will Buse, who was also released from City this summer, but also had a loan spell with Yeovil last season. Before joining Yeovil permanently, Owers had loan spells at Gloucester City and Bath City, whilst he was an unnamed substitute or Bristol City on two occasions.

Owers said, “I’m really happy to be here. I’ve known about the interest for some time. I’m just happy now to get it done and be ready for pre-season.”

Mark Cooper added; “Josh is a player we know well and fits the local profile of footballer we are after. He’s young, hungry and desperate to be a footballer.

“He can play a few positions which gives us great options when it comes to our squad. He’s a good size, athletic and left footed, I look forward to working with him again.”

Out of the nine players released by City this summer, he is the third player to find a new home, following Buse's move to Yeovil, and most recently Joe Porton signing with Melksham Town. Nathan Baker retired last year, but was kept on the wage bill as the club honoured his contract, whilst Taylor Moore, James Morton, Prince Henry, and James Taylor are on the search for a new club.
