Bristol City striker Saikou Janneh is reportedly set to join League One club Cambridge United over the coming days.

Bristol Live have reported the 22-year-old frontman was left out of the Robins first-team squad upon their return to training and will now join Cambridge for a ‘minimal fee’.

The Gambian-born striker joined the Robins academy setup from non-league club Clevedon Town in 2018 and spent time on loan with the likes of Newport County and Torquay United during his first two years with the club.

It was with the latter where he truly shone away from Ashton Gate as he plundered his way to 18 goals in 34 games as the Plainmoor outfit claimed promotion under former Robins boss Gary Johnson in 2019.

A second loan stint with the Gulls was less productive and similar spells with Newport and Shrewsbury Town also failed to return any signs of finding form.

Janneh has made just six senior appearances for the Robins as he came off the bench in Championship fixtures against the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Wycombe Wanderers towards the end of the 2020/21 season.

He grabbed his first senior goals for the club when he scored twice in last season’s Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Forest Green Rovers but it now seems likely his time at Ashton Gate will officially come to an end in the near future as Cambridge close in on his signature.

The striker seemed to confirm his departure on Monday when he posted a SnapChat photo with the caption ‘it’s been a pleasure’ at the club’s training ground.
