Bristol City will take a check on the fitness of forward And Weimann after he suffered an injury on international duty.

The former Aston Villa star has scored four goals in 11 appearances in all competitions so far this season as Nigel Pearson’s side have made a promising start to the season.

His form earned a call-up to the Austria side for their Nations League Group A double-header against Croatia and France - and was handed a starting place in Thursday’s meeting with the latter.

However, Weimann hobbled out of the action five minutes into the second-half as his side went on to fall to a 2-0 defeat at the Stade de France that condemned them to ending their Nations League campaign sat at the bottom of the table.

Speaking after the game, Austria manager Ralf Rangnick said: “David Alaba is injured and also questionable for Sunday.  He thinks the problems come from the back.

“So it was the case that he couldn’t continue playing and it’s not sure if he can play on Sunday.

“The same goes for Andi Weimann and also for Marko Arnautovic. We now have to wait and see how that develops.”

Weimann was named in the matchday squad for home game with Croatia on Sunday night but will now be assessed when he returns to City as they make a final decision over his availability for Saturday’s home game against Queens Park Rangers.

A win for City could take them back into the play-off spots after they slipped out of the top six following defeats against Burnley and Norwich City.
