Bristol City are preparing to face West Brom and Millwall in their final two matches of 2022 and will be hoping they can finish the year in the top half of the Championship after some disappointing form. The Robins currently sit in 18th place, three points above the relegation zone.

Bristol City ended 2021 with a late defeat to QPR which saw Andy King sent off in the second half. Nigel Pearson’s side sat 18th in the second tier with 27 points after 24 matches - the same tally as the current day in one match more.

Ahead of the Robins’ Boxing Day clash with the Baggies, we take a look at today’s transfer headlines.

Robins starlet to leave 'sooner rather than later'

Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott could join a Premier League club 'sooner rather than later', according to CBS Sports Golazo journalist Ben Jacobs. The youngster's brilliant performances have attracted interest from the top flight this year.

Scott enjoyed an excellent breakthrough campaign last time out as he made 38 appearances in the Championship and has now played a further 22 this term, picking up four assists in the process and also earning himself comparisons to Man City's Jack Grealish. The 19-year-old has continuously been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this year, first being linked with the club in February before they reignited their interest to challenge Leeds United for his signature in April - with the Robins reportedly demanding £10m for the teenager.

Signing his first professional contract only last summer, Scott still has two-and-a-half years remaining on his deal at Ashton Gate and so Nigel Pearson's side will be in a good position if they are to negotiate his departure. While they may still be eager to keep one of their most exciting prospects, Ben Jacobs suggests that his big move to the top flight will happen 'soon', which could mean that a move in the January transfer window is on the cards. Scott would be Antonio Conte's second signing from the Championship since his return to England, however Djed Spence's switch from Middlesbrough hasn't gone as well as hoped as he still looks for his first start of the campaign.

Millwall's Gary Rowett has revealed that the Lions could look to the foreign market in the January transfer window following the success of Zian Flemming. The forward joined the club from Fortuna Sittard in the summer and has since scored nine goals in 19 appearances.

With Milwall sat only two points from the Championship's play off spots, Rowett admitted that they will look to strengthen the squad this winter as they bid for promotion. Speaking to Southwark News, the former defender said: “I think every window is tricky because you’ve got to do a lot of work and a lot of diligence to get to a point where you want to sign any player, let alone players from abroad where it’s not quite as easy to go and see them on a regular basis.

“You want a balance. I think Zian and Vogi have brought us a really nice balance along with the other players that we’ve signed, the likes of George Honeyman, Stylesy [Styles], Shacks [Shackleton] and Cressy [Cresswell]. We’ve had a lot of different players come in that have given us a lot of different attributes, but I think some of the players like Zian and Vogi have been brought up in a different way tactically. They’re slightly different technically, they have a different approach to training and I think that’s good. We’ve seen how that works with the two players and I think it’s encouraged us to look further.”
