Bristol City look set to lose centre-back Robbie Cundy to recently relegated Barnsley as talks over a new contract met an impasse.

The 25-year-old was offered a new deal over the summer along with Timm Klose who signed a new deal but rather than staying with the Robins, he will now have a new opportunity.

Cundy, who had three seasons with the club but only made his breakthrough earlier this year owing to injuries and loan spells elsewhere, will link up with Michael Duff, who was a fan of the centre-back during his days at Bath City.

The signing of Kal Naismith, as well as the emergence of Duncan Idehen and the return of Tomas Kalas, has made it harder for the defender to cement himself as a first-team regular.

Cundy, who’s contract is up at the end of the month, was not pictured in any of the club’s images or videos as players returned for pre-season training yesterday.

A report from BristolLive said that Cundy has opted to make the move up north to Oakwell, joining the Tykes on a three-year deal as they try to assemble a team capable of bouncing back from relegation at the first time of asking.

Cundy looks set to be one of two departures from the club this week, as wantaway midfielder Kasey Palmer is a step closer from departing Ashton Gate, according to Football Insider.

The site claims Palmer is undergoing a medical at Coventry City ahead of a free transfer to the Championship side though there is a sell on fee included should the Sky Blues wish to sell him.

Palmer featured just eight times under Pearson last season, scoring once, and will put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Sky Blues, as per Fabrizio Romano.

The goalkeeper, who has been capped three times by England, is expected to battle Vicente Guaita for a spot between the sticks at Selhurst Park.

Meanwhile, Rotherham United have activated the £200k release clause in Lincoln City left-back Cohen Brammel’s contract, as per Sky Sports transfer centre.

They add that the 26-year-old will undergo a medical at the newly-promoted Championship club on Tuesday.
