The Robins have been doing their bit to try and quell the spread of the Omicron variant.

More than 95% of Bristol City players and staff are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 after jabs were administered following a team bus visit to a medical centre this week.

The EFL confirmed that the Robins’ squad had travelled on their first team coach to Tyntesfield Medical Group at the Brockway Medical Centre as a group after a training session to receive their boosters.

Speaking to the Club’s official website about the club’s widespread vaccine uptake, team doctor and GP, Dr Thom Phillips, explained: “It’s testament to the players and the staff at the Club, who have given really good information and allowed the players to make the decision to come and get jabbed today.”

How does Bristol City’s vaccination rate compare to other EFL clubs?

At 95% uptake, City are undoubtedly one of the EFL’s leading lights when it comes to their vaccination rates.

The governing body released data last week in which it revealed that as of last month, 31% of players at its member clubs had yet to receive their first dose of the jab.

Moreover, a quarter of players suggested that they had no intention of receiving the vaccine either.

In total, 75% of players were either fully vaccinated, had had a single jab, or expressed their intention to be vaccinated in the future.

Double-vaccinated players made 59% of that 75% total.

What are the current EFL guidelines for fans?

In response to governmental guidelines which state that certification is now mandatory for entry into venues where large crowds gather – including unseated indoor events with 500 or more attendees, unseated outdoor events with 4,000 or more attendees, and any event with 10,000 or more attendees - the EFL have made it compulsory for supporters to prove their Covid status.

An excerpt from an EFL statement read: “To Be Prepared, those of you who are attending fixtures, where COVID-19 Certification is mandatory, are advised to:

  • Check the Club’s latest COVID-19 guidance in advance of matchday and read its COVID Code of Conduct.
  • Ensure you have a valid form of COVID certification in your possession before you leave for the ground or you will not be permitted entry.
  • The best form of Certification is the COVID pass. You can download the COVID digital pass using the designated NHS App or to your wallet or camera roll in case there is no signal.
  • Bring your original printed NHS COVID Pass on the day of the fixture if you are unable to use the digital version.
  • A negative Lateral Flow test result will be permissible should you be unable to provide a COVID pass
  • Make sure your passes are easily accessible to ensure efficiency and speed of access when approaching the turnstiles.”
