Bristol City left it late but secured a late 2-1 win over relegation threatened Rotherham United at Ashton Gate.

Captain Andi Weimann came off the bench to score in the 91st minute after Jordan Hugill’s second-half penalty had cancelled out Tommy Conway’s header in the first-half.

In the opening attack, City troubled Viktor Johannson with Kal Naismith’s lofted pass finding Sam Bell, who curled a shot at goal. Rotherham had a few sniffs at goal but Zak Vyner and Harry Cornick were able to clear.

Cameron Pring - back in his natural position - delivered an inch-perfect ball to Conway who headed home brilliantly in a central position. The Scotland Under-21 international scored his first goal since Reading, and tied himself with Nahki Wells to 11 goals apiece this season.

The hosts had further chances to score but Cornick missed from a couple of yards out, whilst goalscorer Conway had a penalty appeal turned down despite Cameron Humphreys tussling with him.

Chiedozie’s Ogbene cross landed to Zak Vyner, but the defender couldn’t control it and awarded the visitors a penalty for a foul on Jordan Hugill. The former Cardiff City striker send Max O’Leary the wrong way.

Rotherham’s equaliser put City on the back foot, and they made numerous errors. Georgie Kelly’s header bobbled just past the post. City’s hearts were in their mouths as Shane Ferguson hit the post with a curling effort with O’Leary beaten.

As five minutes of stoppage time went up, City managed to secure the win late on. Kal Naismith couldn’t direct his shot goalwards, but in a congested penalty box it was Weimannw who was on hand to score from several yards out.

Max O’Leary - 6

Superb save to deny Kelly after Wiliams mistake.

George Tanner - 6

Did alright in the first-half but the introduction of Fergson saw him lose out in a few dribbles.

Zak Vyner - 5

Vyner was punished by Hugill for not clearing Ogbene’s cross first time. An error that could have been avoided.

Kal Naismith - 6

A good first-half showing with a few neat passes but from setpieces his delivery could have been better. He was caught too far out to the left when Hugill got fouled.

Cameron Pring - 7

Back in his natural position and enjoying it. A brilliant delivery for Conway’s header.

Matty James - 7

Determined in the centre of the park and stayed on to help the cause.

Andy King (subbed off, 78) - 6

In the second-half, City’s midfield seemed to lose their confidence with Rotherham taking control.

Alex Scott (subbed off, 70) - 6

Given a chance despite Pearson’s slight criticism of the substitutes in midweek. He didn’t do much in the game

Harry Cornick (subbed off, 70) - 6

Missed a glorious opportunity to double his and City’s account.

Tommy Conway - 8

Clinical. Conway had his chance and took it, positioning himself well to head past Johannson.

Sam Bell - 8

Superb. Bell had the beating of Rotherham’s defenders numerous times.

Andi Wemann (subbed on, 70) - 7

Committed to the cause. He was booked for protesting a decision, but you could see he had a point. He was in the right place at the right time to score.

Mark Sykes (subbed on, 70) - 6

Had a few chances to take on his opponents, but just couldn’t get the beating of his opponent.

Joe Williams (subbed on, 78) - N/A

Nahki Wells (subbed on, 83) - N/A
