Bristol City lost on another away day as their woes continued as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Swansea City in the Sky Bet Championship.

Cyrus Christie got a goal and provided an assist for Michael Obafemi’s equaliser as they bounced back from conceding to Andreas Weimann’s first-half opener. Joel Piroe then added his eighth goal of the season to compound City’s misery in stoppage time.

The two goals was an all too repeating theme of City’s season, who have the league’s worst record when it comes to holding onto a lead and getting maximum points.

It also continues the almost year-long run of failing to win back-to-back games which further adds to the frustration of today’s outcome.

As a result of the defeat, Swansea move a place above City by a point and they have the benefit of having two games in hand.

The heroes

Antoine Semenyo: There’s a reason why he’s one of Bristol City’s most sought after players right now. He’s consistently delivering good performances with either a goal or an assist.

He was unlucky not to find himself on the scoresheet in the earlier parts of the games after making a few opportunities for himself.

The 22-year-old though played a key part in the goal, timing the pass to perfection to free up Andreas Weimann to score City’s goal.

Andreas Weimann: Another goal for City’s top scorer this season with the Austrian finding the net for the 15th time.

His goal, which may have provided some early optimism, was the only highlight of the afternoon for the Robins.

He’ll take points over his own personal triumphs but it’s good to see him continuing his fine form this season.

The villains

Michael Obafemi: Villain for Bristol City but a hero for Swansea. The former Southampton forward was a thorn in the side of the Robins defence this afternoon. In the first half he caused the defence a number of problems with his running at the centre-backs with Tomas Kalas needing to make a block.

For all of Obafemi’s efforts, his goal came quite fortuitously as he found himself in the right place to score from just a few yards out.

Cyrus Christie: Another player who will be a villain for City but a hero for the opposition. A goal and assist for the defender this afternoon. He was quite adventurous on his flank and made some good runs.

City’s defence: Another game goes by without a clean sheet with their last shut out coming 11 games ago. They’ve also failed to keep a team out on the road for the 21st game in a row.

Swansea’s goal was a basic goal too and it didn’t require them to put in much effort to score it. All Cyrus Christie had to do was run at Zak Vyner who didn’t pressure him enough, before getting his cross to Obafemi for the goal.

Andy Fisher: There’ll be a fit of frustration that City didn’t get more out of the game given how uneasy Fisher looked at times. Swansea are known for sticking to their beliefs with possession based football but he wasn’t comfortable with the ball at his feet. All three of City’s front men at times put pressure on Fisher whose clearances were sometimes blocked but neither could punish him.

Man of the Match

A goal and assist for right-back Cyrus Christie gives him the accolade for the Player of the Match.

The two goals may not have been the cleanest of strikes but they all count and he ultimately inspired his side to victory.

What’s next?

It’s back to Ashton Gate for Bristol City for their next match as they host play-off chasing Middlesbrough.

For the Swans, they’re on the road as they make the trip up to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United.
