Bristol City are reportedly keen on signing AFC Bournemouth forward Jamal Lowe. The Robins however may face competition from two of their Championship rivals.

The January transfer window is nine days old and so far City have allowed Ryley Towler to leave for an undisclosed fee to Portsmouth, meanwhile Joe Low and Sam Pearson has been loaned out to Walsall and Wimbledon for the remainder of the season.

Three unnamed first-team players have also been told that their contracts will not be renewed in the summer and that they are free to search for new clubs this window. A departure of all three could free up transfer funds for Nigel Pearson to spend.

The 59-year-old had preferred to conduct his business early this month, but without a significant player departure, the club have been unable to make any signings. Speculation has continued however and now there is a new name to add to the list.

City are apparently keen on signing Lowe but so are Millwall and QPR according to one reporter. talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook tweeted: ”Championship interest in#AFCB forward Jamal Lowe with#Millwall#QPR and#BristolCity all keen.” In an alternative report from TEAMtalk, Norwich City are said to be leading the race whilst Suffolk rivals Ipswich Town had also looked at signing him.

Sky Sports journalist Mark McAdam says that Bournemouth are open to letting him go and that QPR have expressed an interest in signing him.

Lowe has played four games for the Cherries this season, but has not started a match in the Premier League. He has only 103 minutes of action all season and was an unused substitute in the FA Cup defeat to Burnley on Saturday.

The 28-year-old is an experienced Championship forward and has scored 27 goals in 135 appearances, as well as supplying seven goals. Lowe scored seven goals last season in English football’s second tier as Bournemouth won promotion. In the 2020/21 campaign, he netted 14 times to help Swansea City to a top-six finish.

It is possible that City and Bournemouth could be trading forwards with the Cherries linked with a move for Antoine Semenyo over the last six months. Bournemouth have recently had a takeover and have money available to strengthen their bid for survival, but City’s reported interest in Lowe could see both clubs entertain a deal in which money and player could be exchanged.
