Bristol City boss refuses to give timescale on key man injury ahead of Oxford United

Tommy Conway will be missing for the foreseeable future for Bristol City, but his manager has not yet put a timescale on his absence

Nigel Pearson has declined to comment on the length of time that key man Tommy Conway could be sidelined for, following the forward’s recent injury.

Speculation arose on social media on Tuesday evening that the Scot could be out for several months with an injury picked up in training, before Conway himself posted an update on Twitter.

Speaking to the BBC before the visit of Oxford United in the Carabao Cup, Pearson said: “Tommy has already, through social media, told people that he's injured. I’ll let you go on any forums that you want to find the details. I won't actually confirm how long he's out for until I get advised by the medical people.”

Conway’s update read: ‘Beyond gutted. As you may have seen, I’ll be cheering the boys on from the sidelines for a bit & doing everything I can to be back on the pitch soon.’

The striker’s absence leaves Nahki Wells as the clubs sole out and out striker, although Harry Cornick can also operate through the middle.

The manager continued: “There are already timescales out there that I can neither confirm nor deny to be honest wth you. It’s the nature of the modern world, people are aware of it.

“He's certainly going to be a miss for us. He's a player who’s a big part of the positive aspects of last season and we’ll try and get him back as soon as possible. It's not something that we wanted so early in the season.”
