‘Being honest...’ - Bristol City favourite reacts to QPR loss and highlights player who’s made ‘too many’ mistakes

Bristol City legend Gary Owers believes their showing against QPR was their ‘least effective’ performance of the season so far.

The Robins were beaten 2-1 at home by QPR.

Michael Beale’s side stormed into a 2-0 lead by 22 minutes after goals from Stefan Johansen and Tyler Roberts.

The hosts pulled one back in the second-half through Nakhi Wells but couldn’t find an equaliser.

Defender Kal Naismith made a couple of mistakes for Bristol City and Owers said he is making ‘too many’ at the moment for Nigel Pearson’s men.

‘Being honest’...

BBC Radio Bristol:

“They (QPR) could have been out of sight. City hung on a little bit and obviously that is the first time we’ve seen Nigel make five changes during the course of the game and indeed three substitutes at once which is a first for him.

“They were (in the game). They got the goal and you’re thinking ‘go on, here they come, game on’ but it just didn’t materialise. QPR changed their shape a bit and that made it difficult. They just couldn’t find that opportunity to get them level.”

He added:

“I think they were the most least effective performance I’ve seen all season and I am only being honest there because I have seen them play really, really well. I don’t think it was a good team performance by any stretch today and I think the result is the evidence of that.

“People are talking about (Kal) Naismith. He takes chances and he does make mistakes and I think he’s making too many. He got himself under pressure in the first-half.”

Bristol City’s form has slumped over recent times and they have slipped to 12th in the Championship table.

The Robins have lost their last three games on the spin now and will be hoping to get back to winning ways on Tuesday night at home to Coventry City.

Pearson’s side have been leaking too many goals and have the second worst defensive record in the division at the moment having let in 18 in their opening 11 outings.

Only Hull City have let in more and that is something that needs to be addressed.
