Bristol City have given permission for academy goalkeeper Josey Casa-Grande to leave the club for a short loan at non-league Larkhall Athletic.

Casa-Grande has made several appearances for Ali Hines' table-topping side in the Premier Development League this season, but second-choice first-team goalkeeper Nikita Haikin was preferred ahead of him in the 2-1 defeat to Colchester United on Tuesday afternoon.

Alfie Kelsey suffered an injury for Larkhall, and they have sought Casa-Grande as a replacement whilst Kelsey recovers from his spell on the sidelines. Larkhall play in the Southern League Division One South which is the eighth tier of the English football pyramid. They are currently 14th and play against the likes of Paulton Rovers and Bristol Manor Farm.

A small club statement said: "We welcome Josey Casa-Grande who joins us on loan from @BristolCity Academy whilst Alfie is out. Thanks to City for all their help." In response, the club replied: "Best of luck, Josey!"

The 17-year-old will remain with the Under-21's set-up, and will continue to train with his age-grade teammates during morning training sessions. He will also train with his loan club, and is eligible to play in their matches. City can recall Casa-Grande and integrate him back into the first-team setup should they wish, as there is no rules that would forbid him from playing for the club again this season.

Casa-Grande joined from Newport County in November 2016 and held trials with Wolverhampton Wanderers before penning terms at the High Performance Centre. He played in the same Under-18's team as Ayman Benarous, Sam Bell and Tommy Conway who have all graduated to the seniors set-up.

Earlier this month, City allowed Callum Wood, Joe Porton and Tom Backwell to depart on a short-term basis. Backwell and Wood headed to Yate Town, whilst Porton made the move to Melksham Town with the latter potentially coming up against Casa-Grande this season.
