The 19-year-old has moved to Ashton Gate for the remainder of the season, with reports suggesting that the Robins have the option to buy at the end of the campaign.

Mebude represents Bristol City’s fourth signing of the transfer window, with news of a reported move for Derby midfielder Max Bird still to be confirmed.

Mebude moved to the Jupiler Pro League in the summer for a reported 1.8m euros following an eye-catching season for Manchester City Under-21s in Premier League 2, where he bagged 11 goals and registered 15 assists in 26 games. During the 2021-22 campaign the wide man recorded 12 goals and 18 assists as his obvious talent began to emerge. However, since moving to the continent, the former Glasgow Rangers youngster has managed just three appearances for Westerlo.

Welcoming Mebude to the club. Boss Liam Manning said: “Dire is an exciting young player and will add to our attacking options.

“We’ve been watching him for a while and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do in a City shirt.”

Mebude is not available for the visit of Leeds United on Saturday but should be in contention for the Robins' trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday, February 10.
