Abi Harrison has been called up to the Scotland squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine and Spain.

Her recent run of form has seen her rise to second in the FA Women’s Championship scoring charts, having scored six league goals.

Her form has proven hard to ignore and now head coach Pedro Martínez Losa believes now is the time to call her for the Scots double-header.

The 23-year-old has three caps already and will be pushing hard to add a further to her name.

News of her call-up was met with the support of her teammates and coaching staff from the Vixens on social media.

Captain Aimee Palmer, who has forged a good partnership with Harrison said: “So deserved and finally getting the recognition! So proud of you! Can’t wait for you to smash it and do your thing!”

Ffion Morgan, who is also on international duty this week with Wales, said: “The work rate this girl gives week in week out in training and games is phenomenal.

“She is always driving the standards in our group. Scoring goals week in week out, leading us from the front.”

Whilst there was a short message from Operations Manager, Grace Williams, who responded to Scotland’s tweet with: “Yessssss Fire fully deserved,” as well as teammate Ella Powell, who said: “So deserved!! Go smash it girl.”

Harrison herself was in a buoyant mood after her club side claimed a 3-0 win over Watford on Sunday.

She was on the mark for the fifth game in a row and opened the scoring before Chloe Bull scored a brace.

Lauren Smith’s side are one game away from the halfway point of the 22-game season and are currently in fifth, five points off of league leaders Liverpool.

“The improvement since the last international break has been incredible, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the best is yet to come with this special group.”

Other players involved on international duty include on-loan goalkeeper Fran Bentley, on loan from Manchester United, who will be on England U23s duty against Estonia in a friendly on November 30. Former City striker Ebony Salmon, now playing for Racing Louisville is also in the squad.

Meanwhile defensive duo Brooke Aspin and Naomi Layzell are both in the England Women’s squad which will take on Norway and the Netherlands in the Algarve Cup from 21 November to 30 November.

Satara Murray was on duty with Jamaica last month but they haven’t got a scheduled fixture until February.
