Bristol City urged to secure Nahki Wells contract deal

Bristol City have a decision to make regarding the future of Wells with his deal due to expire. He is out of contract in late June and is due to become a free agent as things stand with no agreement struck as of yet.

Pundit Lee Hendrie believes they need to hand him an extension and has said, as per Football League World: “Liam Manning has revealed that he is keen to get Nahki Wells on a new deal at Bristol City. Nahki Wells is, and has been, brilliant for them over the seasons, even when he has not started. I think that has been the standout thing. When he has been called upon, he has produced in big games.

"Nahki Wells knows where the back of the net is. He is a very good squad player, to a certain extent, but he is also capable of being in that starting eleven week in, week out. He is one of those players that knows the club. Liam Manning obviously has high regard for him, so yes, keeping players like him, I think, will be so important for Bristol City. They have had a brilliant season under Liam Manning. He seems to be getting the best out of that squad of players that he has. With Nahki Wells, a new deal would certainly be a big thing for the club going forward."

Bristol City story so far for Nakhi Wells

Bristol City signed Wells back in 2020 and he has since been a great servant as he closes in on five years with the club. He has made 226 appearances in all competitions and has scored 46 goals, eight of which have come this season.

He has proved that he is a useful option to have in and around the squad. The forward gives Manning another option to pick from at the top end of the pitch and injects experience into their ranks. Wells is a Bermuda international with 26 caps under his belt so far in his career. He has also had spells in the past at Carlisle United, Bradford City, Huddersfield Town, Burnley and QPR.

The veteran has made Bristol City his home over recent times and they will be weighing up what to do with him next. If he were to leave, it is likely that he would have a few different offers on the table as he shows no signs of slowing down just yet. The Robins are dreaming of Premier League football next term and have been in decent form recently. Manning’s men are proving to be a tough nut to crack and will want to keep their momentum going for as long as possible.
