Bristol City Women’s team’s match that was scheduled for Sunday against London City Lionesses in the FA Women’s Championship has also been cancelled.

Following in the footsteps of the Premier League, the EFL has decided to cancel all of their matches for Saturday and Sunday, as a mark of respect for the Queen.

In a statemeny by the EFL on Friday morning, it read: “Further to discussions on Friday morning it has been determined that all EFL fixtures from 9-10 September will be postponed as a mark of respect by the National Sport to the passing of HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

This is aligned with the approach that the Premier League and the FA will take with their competitions this weekend.

“Details regarding rearranged games will be announced in due course.”

In response to the postponement, Richard Gould, the CEO at Bristol City said: We continue to send our thoughts and condolences to The Royal Family at the loss of Her Majesty.

“We recognise that supporters of both teams were looking foward to the game and thank them for their patience. We will advise supporters of any rescheduling as soon as possible.”

Both clubs have midweek fixtures scheduled with Rovers away at Ipswich Town on Tuesday, September 13 and City playing Norwich City at Carrow Road on Wednesday, September 14.

There are games scheduled for next Saturday also before a break is enforced for the international break. Rovers unaffected by the international call-ups face Lincoln City at the Memorial Stadium whilst City are away at Turf Moor to face Vincent Kompany’s Burnley.
