The January transfer window opens in less than 24 hours and Bristol City have already done some business.

Bristol City are set to make Adam Murphy their first signing of the January transfer window. Neil O'Riordan, the Chief Sports Writer for the Irish Sun said that the Robins are 'set to confirm' the signing of the St Patrick's Athletic midfielder.

Murphy was rumoured with a move to Ashton Gate in the summer however a move fell through and he remained with the League of Ireland outfit. City were due to pay a fee for him to secure him earlier, however no further transfer funds were made available, despite the sale of Alex Scott.

A report from The Irish Sun however says that City have now 'succeeded' in their bid to sign Murphy at the second time of asking. Crystal Palace, Brighton & Hove Albion, Derby County and Southampton were all said to have held an interest, however it is City who have ended up winning the race to his signature.

Murphy's contract st St Pat's is up, and the teenager is said to have informed them of his decision to join Bristol City, however because he came through their system, they will at least receive compensation. The Sun say that St Pat's will receive €250,000 for Murphy which translates to about £216,000.

Murphy is an 18-year-old central midfielder, and is expected to link up with the under-21's team at first. He could be fast tracked to the first-team should he impress academy bosses, similar to how Alex Scott joined from Guernsey and then became a mainstay of the team. He is under the age of 21-years-old and so he will not need to be included in City's EFL squad list, which allows them to sign more players should they wish to do so without any worries.

He leaves St Pat's having made 34 appearances across all competitions this season with four assists and two goals. Murphy is predominantly a central midfielder but is also capable of playing in attacking midfield and also played one game as a defensive midfielder also.
