An area near Cribbs Causeway is at the centre of the tale which dates back to 1937, and which has been included in the online Paranormal Database.

There were various suggestions of how she had been injured, but the surroundings of her death seemed more certain.

The Database added: “Though injured, she ran away, only to stumble into a fishpond where she drowned. Her ghost was last seen by several carol singers.”

The radiogram which played classical music

In 2001, an estate agent was with a client and they were looking around an old, vacant property, which still had many of its original fittings.

After a while, a 1950s radiogram burst into life and began playing classical music.

In 1976, Kings Chase Shopping Centre was affected by incidents such as small items moving by themselves, the sounds of footsteps and rustling.

But perhaps strangest of all was that the poltergeist was associated with a habit of turning on a kettle.
