Bristol has changed quite a lot over the years – and it’s meant some of the things we were once lucky enough to be able to do have disappeared.
We have put together a gallery of 16 things that were either iconic sights in the city, useful facilities, or just great fun to do. Many of us remember them from childhood, or even later in life.
Because of changing times, economics, or even health and safety, these are no longer available for us to do.
We have found pictures from the archives which will bring the memories flooding back.
They are signs of the many ways in which the city has changed over the years.
Which of these do you miss the most?

1. Visit Bristol Zoo Gardens
We all remember school trips here, but Bristol Zoo Gardens closed its 186-year-old Clifton site in September 2022, with controversial plans to develop it into 200 homes approved the following April. | Bristol Zoo

2. Ice skate in the city centre
Bristol’s ice skating rink on Frogmore Street closed in 2012 before being demolished and replaced by a multi-storey block of flats. I vividly remember falling onto the ice on my first and only visit. | Google

3. Swim in Fishponds Lido
The former quarry pit became a public swimming pool until the 1970s but is now used by a private angling club. I was sad to be greeted by locked gates on a recent visit to the area. | Charlie Watts

4. Go up and down the escalators in Debenhams
The former department store is set to be knocked down to make way for 500 new apartments, in several buildings with the tallest 28 storeys high. | BristolWorld
