The contractors have entered liquidation and the proposed summer launch has been pushed back again

Bristol’s hotly anticipated Boxhall harbourside food hall has been delayed further due to the contractors entering liquidation. Work on the project in Welsh Back has ground to a halt as the developers find a new contractor and the proposed summer opening has been pushed back.

Originally set to open this summer, Boxhall is a modern food hall concept offering high-quality product ranges and food from local, independent street food traders and restaurant operators.

The 20,000 sq.ft venture will feature two external terraces overlooking the historic floating harbour taking in waterside views towards Bristol Bridge, as well as Welsh Back itself.

In addition to the food offer, Boxhall will host events showcasing the best of Bristol’s music scene throughout the week.

But work on the scheme, which is set to create over 100 local jobs, has been paused as the developers try to find a new contractor and it looks increasingly likely the project won’t open until autumn at the earliest.

A spokesperson for Boxhall said: “We are incredibly disappointed to hear work has paused on site due to the landlord’s contractors entering liquidation.

“Over the last couple of months, we’ve been ramping up our plans, and collaborating with some of Bristol’s finest to prepare for a late summer opening.

“The site’s developers are working on sourcing alternative contractors. While they are currently now hoping to hand the site over to us in the autumn, until a contractor has been appointed, we won’t know the impact this will have on our opening date.

“These hurdles won’t deter us though; we remain completely committed to Bristol and can’t wait to open our first Boxhall in the city as soon as feasible.”
