Bristol City turn their attention back to the Championship this weekend as they have the all-important matter of a Severnside Derby with Cardiff City.

It’s the second-part of what has been a big week for the Robins, who welcomed Premier League champions Manchester City to Ashton Gate. Nigel Pearson’s side fell to a 3-0 defeat to Pep Guardiola’s team of superstars, but for a majority of the match only trailed to one Phil Foden goal, but he doubled their lead late on and then Kevin De Bruyne scored a stunner to increase the margin of victory.

Man City’s victory ended a 12-match unbeaten run in all competitions, but they still have a nine-game unbeaten run in the league to hold on to. A win on Saturday could take City in to the top-half which would at least let them overtake Preston for the time being, and would create further distance between themselves and the drop zone. Their Severnside rivals Cardiff are just four points above 22nd-placed Huddersfield Town, who are City’s next opponents after Saturday.

We take a look at what players could be missing for both Bristol City and Cardiff City ahead of their clash at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Bristol City team news

Anis Mehmeti and Harry Cornick are available for selection after being cup tied. Guardiola was surprised not to see Mehmeti play, which shows he may have been expecting to come up against the Albania Under-21 international.

Kal Naismith is expected to return from a calf injury just before the international break, or most certainly after it. City’s last game before there’s a pause is Swansea City away on March 19, or their first game back is against Reading on April 1.

Tommy Conway is making progress for a return to action, and joined in with his teammates in training last week. The Scotland Under-21 international has been out since early January with a hamstring tendon injury.

Rob Atkinson is out for the rest of the season after a serious knee injury ended his campaign. He was substituted off against Sunderland and the scan returned the worst initial thoughts which was an ACL problem. Ayman Benarous is also on the sidelines with a similar injury.

Kane Wilson was back amongst the substitutes on Tuesday night and that could hint that he is ready to be eased back into action. The summer signing from Forest Green Rovers had a knee injury in October and has been playing for the Under-21’s recently.

Alex Scott and Joe Williams have managed to avoid yellow cards which would rule them out for the next two matches. The pair are both on nine yellows and should they pick one up, they would miss two matches which would be a blow at this late stage of the campaign.

Out: Ayman Benarous, Kal Naismith, Rob Atkinson. Doubtful: Tommy Conway.

Cardiff City team news

The Bluebirds will be without their starman Callum Robinson this weekend, who is out with a hamstring problem. Robinson, who had a brief loan spell at Ashton Gate, and then became a thorn in their side when he returned, is their top scorer and assists man, but he was injured in their 1-0 win over Reading.

Nigerian international Jamilu Collins is out for the remainder of the campaign after sustaining a knee injury in August. Former Robins winger Callum O’Dowda could play in that role, and likely come up against his international teammate Mark Sykes.

Kane Wilson’s former FGR teammate Ebou Adams is yet to make an appearance for Cardiff since his summer move, and hasn’t played a competitive game under the three full-time managers and one caretaker boss that Cardiff have had this season. Adams ripped his pectoral muscle in a pre-season friendly.

Out: Callum Robinson, Jamilu Collins, Ebou Adams.
