This is how Bristol City wantaway Han-Noah Massengo fared on his Auxerre debut

It's only three days removed since Bristol City found out they'd be facing Manchester City in the fifth-round of the FA Cup at Ashton Gate. The news that Pep Guardiola's team of superstars would be coming to the West Country again was the main story from the draw.

In the midst of fans waiting for ticket details, and when the game would be played, the club announced the departure of Han-Noah Massengo. A move to France had been reported in the morning, and a move quickly transpired with Auxerre the destination for the 21-year-old. It was said that they would be covering all of his wages, which would be a massive plus as it could allow for them to reinvest the resources back in to the playing squad, helping make way for the arrivals of Anis Mehmeti and Harry Cornick.

He was offered news terms this time last year, but no new deal would be signed, and for the first part of the campaign, he was used on a sparingly basis. Massengo started a few games at the start of the campaign, but has not played a senior match since October. The six-month loan will take Massengo up to the four-year contract he signed in the summer of 2019, and there is likely to be no contract renewal

Massengo's move went through in time to allow him to make his debut for his new club, funnily enough against the team that gave him his opportunity in football, AS Monaco. The principality are fighting for a Champions League spot, and are just ten-points off league leaders PSG. Auxerre meanwhile are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table, and are battling to stay in the division.

Massengo was named as a substiute, probably because he has only been playing Under-21's football in recent weeks and had only made the move on Monday evening. It was the worst possible start however for Auxerre as Monaco raced into a two-goal lead on the half-hour mark with goals from Wissam Ben Yedder and Eliesse Ben Seghir at the Stade Louis II.

Matthis Abline pulled a goal back for Auxerre and a minute later Massengo came on for his sebut, replacing the injured Julian Jeanvier. Christophe Pelissier's side battled hard for an equaliser, but instead Breel Embolo restored Monaco's two goal advantage eight minutes from time. Two minutes later however Nuno da Costa scored to set up a grandstand finish but they could not find a third goal and it was a losing start for Massengo.

Auxerre have now suffered seven straight defeats in the league and their last points game against Troyes in early-November and their last win was against Ajaccio at the end of October. Their next match is at home at the Stade Abbe Deschamps against Reims on Sunday, who are on an unbeaten run.
