The world’s largest chicken wing festival is returning to Bristol next month, with an estimated 100,000 chicken wings set to be consumed.

Bristol Wing Fest will take place between September 8-10 at the Lloyds Amphitheatre in Bristol harbourside.

The three-day event will be divided into sessions starting with Friday evening, followed by afternoon and evening sessions on Saturday, and finishing with a bang on Sunday afternoon.

Organisers say festivalgoers can expect ‘profound poultry eating, music thumping, axe throwing, beer and bourbon drinking of epic proportion’.

Bristol Wing Fest will showcase an array of independent restaurants, street food traders and pop-ups, who will display their culinary talents and compete against each other. Guest judges will include TV chefs Dean Edwards and Tommy Heaney.

The competition is split into different categories: the best buffalo wing; the battle for who can execute the perfect classic spicy sauce, the best BBQ wing and the best wild wing.

Bristol’s line-up includes award-winning Gurt Wings, the popular New Orleans joint Poor Boys, and Ginger Wings who will be competing to win festivalgoers’ votes and guarantee their spot in the ‘hall of flame’.

Wing Fest’s competitions will be held on all three days including the Lava Wing Challenge. Hosted by Clifton Chilli Club, it’s the UK’s hottest wing challenge.

There will also be the Sweet Baby Ray’s Wing Eating competition hosted by Food Review Club. Competitors compete against each other to see who can eat the most chicken wings in the fastest time - it’s easily the messiest spectacle across the three days.

As well as an endless supply of chicken wings, there will be beer from Tiny Rebel brewery, bourbon from Horse With No Name, tequila from Olmeca Altos and whiskey from Jameson Black Barrel.
