A fairly new addition in the grand scheme of things to the Bristol cocktail scene, The Loose Cannon just off Millennium Square does things right. The proudly independent bar prides itself on good quality cocktails, as opposed to cheap, juice-filled, watery dishwater that so often masquerades as a cocktail these days. Plus, they’ve got pretty swanky surroundings to enjoy them in, too.

Perhaps one of the most well-known cocktail bars in Bristol, award-winning The Milk Thistle is one of the secret bars across the city, brought to us by Hyde and Co. Spread across four floors of a townhouse building, that has a different vibe for every place that you enter, they really get it right when it comes to their approaches to mixology. Have a chat about your favourite flavours with the staff and they are sure to mix you up something special, or opt for a classic and they’ll serve it perfectly.

You’d expect it to be swanky, given it’s situated in one of Bristol’s best hotels, but The Gold Bar really impresses, both in interiors and taste. Formerly the Bank Manager’s office, this sizeable yet intimate space has an ultra-luxe speakeasy vibe that you can take to the bank. The bar staff have been shaking up the cocktail scene with their knowledge since the launch, and the well-stocked, marble-clad bar is the perfect place to sit and savour the expertise.

This cute little independent bar in Clifton is a sure winner when it comes to cocktails. Just by the train station on Whiteladies Road, it’s a lovely little space that feels cosy, decadent and perfect for sipping soothing spirits. Their latest menu, Celebrating Cocktails, is a pretty decent summary of the bar – it’s all about the origins of their favourites, but with unpretentious and occasionally outrageous twists, with the classics available too, of course.
