A popular Warmley pub that closed its doors last year will open later this month under new owners.

The White Harte on the London Road at Bridgeyate has been taken over by experienced pub operator Abhi Paudel.

Mr Paudel has more than 20 years of experience running pubs in London and Bristol. He opened the Fishponds Tap in Fishponds in July 2021 and it quickly gained a reputation for its craft beers and food, including a menu of Himalayan dishes.

A Grade II-listed pub dating from 1825, The White Harte is well positioned between Bristol and Bath and Mr Paudel says its location was part of its appeal.

“It’s in a very good location and when it was still operating under the previous owner, I visited it and really liked the pub because it’s cosy and has lots of regulars.

“The model we have at the Fishponds Tap with the Himalayan menu, pub classics, craft ales and coffees is working well so I thought I could replicate that at The White Harte.

“Both pubs are owned by Heineken’s Star Pubs and Bars and they approached me about taking on The White Harte. They like the model at the Fishponds Tap and The White Harte has a good catchment area with easy links to Fishponds and Warmley.”

Mr Paudel and his team are currently working hard in the background and hope to get the new-look pub back open before the end of March.

He said: “We are making a few changes to the kitchen and installing a clay oven for the naan breads and tandoori items.

“It will be great to see The White Harte back open after almost five months. Pubs are my passion and they are the hub of communities like this, it’s not just about money, money, money.

“It’s about giving back to local communities too because local pubs connect people - they should not be closed but open for business!”
