Whitchurch Lane Bristol: Police update on serious crash involving cyclist and lorry

A main road across south Bristol was closed in both directions today due to a fatal crash involving a cyclist and a lorry. Whitchurch Lane in Hengrove was closed at around 8am, it reopened shortly after 1.30pm. At lunchtime, Avon and Somerset Police said the female cyclist involved has tragically died.

Witnesses have reported a ‘big accident’ with police, fire crews and ambulances at the side of the road. It happened at the turn-off for the Boulevard and Hengrove Leisure Centre.

The road is closed from the Hartcliffe roundabout to Fortfield Road. The closure has resulted in heavy traffic elsewhere.

An updated statement issued just after 1pm by Avon and Somerset Police said: “A woman has sadly died at the scene of a road traffic collision in Hengrove, Bristol today (Wednesday 16 November).

“Officers were called to Whitchurch Lane, in Hengrove, Bristol at 8.05am following reports of a serious collision involving a cyclist and a lorry at the junction with The Boulevard.

“The cyclist, in her 30s, sadly died at the scene. Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time. They are being supported by a specially trained officer.
