A female cyclist has tragically died after a crash involving a lorry in south Bristol this morning. The woman, in her 30s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene in Whitchurch Lane in Hengrove.

Police were called to the serious collision at the junction with The Boulevard at 8.05am. The road was closed between the Hartcliffe roundabout and the junction with Bamfield as paramedics also arrived at the scene.

But just after 1pm today, Avon and Somerset Police issued a statement which said the cyclist had died. It said: “A woman has sadly died at the scene of a road traffic collision in Hengrove, Bristol today (Wednesday 16 November).

“Officers were called to Whitchurch Lane, in Hengrove, Bristol at 8.05am following reports of a serious collision involving a cyclist and a lorry at the junction with The Boulevard.

“The cyclist, in her 30s, sadly died at the scene. Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time. They are being supported by a specially trained officer.”

At 1.30pm, the road remained closed with collision investigators on scene. People accessing South Bristol Community Hospital, Hengrove Leisure Centre or City of Bristol College’s South Bristol Skills Academy can still do so by speaking to an officer at the cordon.

Police are now appealing for anyone who saw the incident, or may have dashcam footage, to contact 101 and quote reference number 5222275628.
