Where was Wonka filmed? The locations near Bristol used in the new Timothée Chalamet movie

Some of the key scenes from the hit movie were filmed in Bath

The new Wonka film with Hollywood star Timothée Chalamet opened last weekend and it’s already the Christmas movie of 2023.

The film tells the origin story of Willy Wonka, a character from Roald Dahl’s novel Charlie and the Chocolate factory.

As well as Chalamet in the title role, the film stars Calah Lane and an ensemble cast including Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Tom Davis, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Grant.

Wonka was filmed in various locations around the UK including London, Oxford and Lyme Regis, but many of the key scenes were filmed near Bristol.

Large crowds gathered in various locations in Bath to see Timothée Chalamet and other stars during filming.

Filmed in late 2021, some of the scenes were dressed up to be winter and there were liberal amounts of biodegradable artificial snow used.

The filming in Parade Gardens and the riverside colonnades was done at night, so cranes were brought in to light the scene from above and giant fans used to blow the snow across the river.

Other locations included outside Bath Abbey, Bath Street, Kingston Buildings and Walcot Steps on Walcot Street.
