Bristol is facing heavy showers and thunderstorms this afternoon (July 9) - with the Met Office warning of possible damage from flooding and lightning strikes.

After a mixed day yesterday, the weather is set to turn wet and thundery between 4pm and 5pm today, according to the office’s up-to-date forecast for today.

It could continue to remain wet until 6pm, before a dry evening with some sunshine. Temperatures will remain warm with the mercury at 22C at 4pm.

The yellow weather warning raises the possibility of disruption, including to driving conditions due to flooding impacting ‘a few roads’ and train services. There is also the potential of damage to homes and businesses due to flooding or lightning strikes.

The Met Office also warns of short term loss of power.

What about the weather tonight

The conditions are expected to clear up tonight though - with the Met Office saying: “Showers will ease leaving some clear spells for a time. Cloud will then thicken from the west where it will turn breezier with a risk of coastal showers. Feeling cooler. Minimum temperature 11 °C.”

Monday

The Met office says: “Cloud will continue to thicken from the west with scattered showers merging into longer spells of heavy rain through the day, potentially turning thundery at times. Breezy, particularly around coasts. Maximum temperature 21 °C.”
