The area, on the corner of Stokes Croft and Jamaica Street, has been empty since the shoe shop that once stood there was destroyed one night during the Bristol Blitz in 1940.

But we asked you what should fill the space, where regular fires are lit despite it being concreted over in 2022 in an attempt to prevent anti-social behaviour.

Here is what you said:

  • A fountain
  • A kebab van
  • Recycling centre including a needle and syringe drop-off
  • Student accommodation
  • Permanent fire pit
  • Tesco superstore
  • 'Nuke it from space!'
  • Swimming pool
  • Massive car park
  • Hostel for the homeless
  • Commercial buildings akin to what was there before it was blitzed
  • A good fireplace
  • Fire and people
  • Student flats
