The UK is set to be hit by what some people have described as a so-called “Arctic blast”, which will cause temperatures to drop to below freezing.

The weather experts confirmed that should snow fall in the next few weeks it will likely happen in the north of Scotland.

Tyler Ros, from AccuWeather, said a recent cold blast due to arrive in Eastern Europe this week, will descend upon the UK soon after.

“We do have to watch a cold snap that appears to move into eastern Europe early next week,” said Tyler Ros.

“If this bleeds westward towards the UK (with the core of the cold remaining in eastern Europe), then the temperatures will be near to slightly below normal during this stretch,” he added.

It’s doubtful whether London will see snow before Christmas but one thing is certain and that is how cold it will feel - the feels-like temperature in the capital will drop to -2°C and -3°C over the next few days.

In the south high pressure is likely to remain close by, giving a good deal of settled and dry weather.

Temperatures will be varied overall with longer mild spells being punctuated by shorter colder spells, with some wintry weather also possible with a risk of snow and ice in the north. During any clear, calm spells, overnight frost and fog are likely.
