We take a walk around the huge inner city park with a river, cricket field and three football pitches

The site was once home to a vast chemical works

Located in the east Bristol suburb of Redfield, Netham Park is a major park and area of open green space with first-rate facilities for leisure, sport and recreational activities.

The site was once home to Netham Chemical Works which extended from Marsh Lane to Blackswarth Road and Avonvale Road to the Feeder, spreading itself over some 40 acres and producing sulphuric acid (vitriol) and washing soda from 1859.

It closed in 1949, leaving behind a vast tipping ground of heaps of waste materials and only remnants of old walls remain.

Netham Park is maintained by The Friends of Netham Park, who have worked with Avon Wildlife Trust over the past few years to create a wildlife haven, so the park is beautifully maintained and is enjoyed by the whole community.
