We visit the historic Bristol park which has one of the best skateparks in the city

Dame Emily Park is a small and historic urban park in south Bristol

Dame Emily Park in south Bristol is perhaps best known for its skatepark, 'The Deaner'.

The park, between Bedminster and Southville, is named after Emily Smyth of Ashton Court, whose family donated the land for public use after the closure of the Dean Lane Colliery in 1906.

The skatepark opened there in 1978, with the former Tap & Barrel pub opposite the park on Dean Lane becoming skater-friendly bar, The Dame, in August 2023.

Alongside the skatepark, there are ball courts, a popular play park and a community garden.

The site is next door to Bristol South Swimming Pool and it is just yards away from shopping streets East Street and North Street, putting it in a prime location.
