A new traditional Greek bakery has opened its doors in a former hair salon in Clifton Village.

Bake-A-Licious aims to transport visitors to Greece with “warm hospitality, the gentle murmur of Greek conversation and the vibrant music that spills out onto the street”.

The extensive menu includes a selection of freshly made pastries such as brioche calzone, Kourou cheese pastry and Bougatsa with custard cream.

Sweet treats include Ekmek kataifi, lemon pie and tiramisus, with coffees, Greek herbal teas and smoothies. The vegan selection also includes vegan kataifi, vegan baklava and koulouri.

We decided to pay Bake-A-Licious a visit and had a difficult time only picking one or two treats.

They had a delicious-looking range of cakes and pastries on display on the glass shelves near the counter and their drinks menu was displayed on a wall behind the till. Soothing music played from the speakers and there was a hanging chair in one corner as well as plenty of indoor seating.

In the end, I decided to order a covered pizza slice (£4.30), a vegan mushroom pie (£3.80) and a green energy smoothie with avocado, pear, green apple, spinach and spirulina (£4.50).

The thick and sweet smoothie was brought to the table a few moments later and they gave me some plates and cutlery for the pastries.

As for the vegan mushroom pie, it was warm and creamy. The soft pastry dissolved in your mouth, the cheese was slightly chewy and it had a crusty edge.

The pizza was topped with a generous layer of ham, cheese and peppers. The dough was very soft and the flavour of the ham lingered.

Overall, it was a very filling meal and I took a large piece of the pizza home as leftovers. I also couldn’t resist one of the delicious-looking cakes, so I ordered two wafer rolls - one with hazelnut cream and one with bueno cream - for £1.50 each to share with my housemate. The wafer rolls were delicious; it played well with textures as it had a crispy exterior and a creamy middle.

Overall, my first visit to Bake-A-Licious was a very good experience. The food was delicious and very filling as well as well priced and the staff was fast and friendly.

It was an authentic taste of sunny Greece on an icy cold day in Bristol.
