We look inside the derelict Bristol mansion you have probably never seen

The upstairs of the once grand manor was previously home to the bedrooms of the famous Smyth family

For nearly 500 years, Ashton Court Mansion was the home of the famous Smyth family in Bristol.

Acquired by the city council in 1959, the estate is now a popular park for the public and the ground floor of the once grand manor is still used to host events.

But only 30 per cent of the building is in use, with the upstairs completely derelict.

In 2018, it was estimated that at least £20-40m is needed to restore the space which was once home to the Smyth family's bedrooms.

The Friends of Ashton Court, a group of volunteers, hold hard hat tours of the upper floor three times a year - and BristolWorld joined the latest one.
