A park group in Bristol has called on dog owners to ‘take more care’ after a disabled woman was left ‘badly shaken’ following an incident.

The crutch-using woman and her friend were ‘rushed’ by a group of dogs in Redcatch Park, according to the local park group.

One dog is said to have bounded at the woman, knocking her to the ground and leaving her bruised.

Friends of Redcatch Park, which manages the space in Knowle, has now urged dog owners to be more vigilant when letting dogs off their leads.

In a Facebook post about the incident, Friends of Redcatch Park chair Sian Ellis-Thomas wrote: “A woman was at the park with a disabled (crutch-using) friend, making their way from the car park to the Community Garden.

“They were 'rushed' by a group of excited dogs that were being walked by a small group of people.

“One dog bounded at the person on crutches and knocked her to the ground. She was badly shaken.

“The dog owners were very apologetic and tried to be helpful – luckily the person's fall was broken, but today they have bruising and are very stiff.”

Sian added: “The woman doesn't want to be identified and is not against dogs but has requested that I post a message to all dog owners to please take special care of allowing 'lively' dogs off lead, especially down at the car park end of the park and Community Garden entrance where frail or disabled users like her friend are more likely to be entering and exiting the park.”
