UWE student found dead at halls of residence in Bristol is named as inquest opens

A University of the West of England student who died at his halls of residence in Bristol has been named, as an inquest into his death was opened.

Luke Forte, aged 21, was found dead in his room at Phoenix Court, on Bond Street South, on December 1 last year, at around 1.15pm.

The inquest opening at Avon Coroner’s Court heard how concerned staff gained entry to the student’s room before finding him unresponsive.

Mr Forte, who was from Derby, had left notes to his mother and a friend by the door.

It is understood that he had been working in the fashion industry as a model and photographer.

A report from the police and ambulance service along with family statements were requested during the inquest opening on January 5.

Avon area coroner Peter Harrowing listed the inquest for March 15 at Avon and Somerset Coroner’s Court.

BristolWorld approached UWE over the student’s death.

In a statement, the university said: “We can confirm that a UWE Bristol student sadly passed away at Unite Students accommodation in Bristol city centre on Wednesday 1 December.

“We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends.

“A full range of university support services have been made available to our student community and members of staff. We would encourage students or staff affected to access these services or call the Samaritans for support as soon as possible.”
