The much-anticipated Ashley Down Station opened yesterday (September 28).

We visited the station on opening day to learn about locals’ thought about the new station.

Heather commented: “It’s potentially going to be a very busy railway station as it’s close to the cricket ground and it’s close to the Memorial ground, so all of these places and the top of the Gloucester Road for anyone travelling, say, from Easton, Lawrence Hill and Stapleton Road. You’ve got that quick route which is going to be less than 10 minutes, the bus journey would be into town and out of town.

“So it’s great potential and this really paves the way for more commuter and leisure train services around the area. People going out in the evening could use the station quite easily to get into town and back.”

Melissa added: “I think it looks really smart. It’s really impressive. I’ve watched the last couple of years of it being built, so it’s great to see it finally being complete.

“I probably won’t use it every day, I normally cycle to work, but if it’s raining, I might take the train instead.”
