The Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (ASLEF) union announced industrial action that will affect Great Western Railway, Chiltern Railways and other train operators on April 6 and 13 and some disruptions between April 4 to 6 and 8 to 9.

But how will the industrial action impact Bristol?

On April 5 (Friday), between 00:01 and 23:59, there will be no CrossCountry train services in operation and services on Saturday are expected to be extremely busy.

No long-distance Great Western Railway (GWR) train services will be running on Saturday (April 6). Only services between Bristol and Cardiff will continue but are limited to running from 7am to around 7pm. There will be no journeys towards London from either Temple Meads or Parkway and no journeys towards Salisbury/Portsmouth via Bath.

There are also likely to be some short-notice alterations and cancellations, especially at the weekend or late at night, caused by further disruptions between April 4 and 6 and 8 and 9. Travellers travelling where trains are running are recommended to check both outward and return journeys before they travel.

Tickets for April 5 to 8 can be used the day before or up to and including April 10, and customers who have been delayed by 15 minutes or more for Great Western Railway trains and 30 minutes or more for Cross Country trains may be entitled to Delay Repay compensation.

If you have bought a ticket but do not travel, you can claim a full refund or amend your ticket.
