M5 and M4 travel updates Bristol: Queues of motorists heading south

Millions of drivers are taking to the roads on Good Friday in what is predicted to be the busiest travel day of the Easter weekend - with a large bulk of them heading past Bristol on the M5 and M4 today.
With the sun shining, many families are taking advanatage of the good weather for a break on the south coast - but that means heavy disruption on the motorway system with cars, motorhomes and caravans on the roads.

Hide AdIn Bristol, at 12noon, Highways England reported delays on the M5 with the average speed of traffic between junctions 17 for Cribbs Causeway and 19 for Gordano Services at 25mph as cameras showed queues building south of Gordano.
Average speed between junction 15/16 for Almondsbury and junction 17 to be at 32mph, and from junction 19 to junction 20 for Clevedon 32mph.
Highways England maps also shows heavy traffic between junction 14 for Thornbury and junction 15/16.
As wellas the M5, it is also slow on the M4 west bound from junction 19 to junction 21.

Hide AdOn top of all the travel disruption, supplies of petrol and diesel at filling stations in some areas of the country have been at around half their usual level as the UK’s travel network comes under pressure.
