Voi has announced when it will disable its scooters over the New Year period.

The e-scooters were made unavailable for use by the Swedish firm from 9pm on Christmas Eve to 8am on Christmas Day.

The scooters will be off the roads again from 9pm on New Year’s Eve to 8am on New Year’s Day, according to a ‘major alert’ by Travel West.

The scooters have become a popular mode of getting around since their trial launched in the city in October last year, with around a dozen similar schemes running in other towns and cities across the UK.

Voi revealed that more people were using the vehicles in eco-conscious Bristol than anywhere else in Europe and the trial was extended into 2022 in November.

But the scheme is viewed as controversial by some after a report by transport safety charity Pacts revealed that 90 e-scooter riders were treated in A&E units in Bristol in four weeks between May and June.

Bristol Mayor Marvin Rees is a supporter of the scheme and has also called for private e-scooters to be legalised.
