The Bristol area boasts eight of the best secondary schools across the country according to the Sunday Times’ Parent Power guide.
The Parent Power guide featured as a supplement in the national title on Sunday (December 11) - although the top schools can already be viewed online here. And it is a handy tool which can help parents decide on applications for the next school year with the final date in Bristol and South Gloucestershire being January 15.
The table ranks secondary schools across the country on how well their pupils perform in GCSE exams. The school with the most students scoring level 7, 8 and 9 grades, equivalent to A and A*, is then ranked the highest.
This year, the Henrietta Barnett School was ranked as the top secondary school in the land - with an impressive 98.8% of its 793 pupils achieving an A or A*. Seven secondary schools within Bristol or in the surrounding area made the top 500 - with Bristol Cathedral Choir School taking the top spot in the city.
Here is a list of those eight schools and the percentage of students who scored highly.

1. Bristol Cathedral Choir School
Bristol Cathedral Choir School was ranked 215th in the Parent Power 2023 table. It has 1,189 pupils with 40.4% achieving level 7 - 9 which is equivalent to an A or A* grade.

2. Katharine Lady Berkeley
Katharine Lady Berkeley was ranked 220th in the Parent Power 2023 table. It has 1,500 pupils with 37% achieving level 7 - 9 which is equivalent to an A or A* grade.

3. The Castle School, Thornbury
The Castle School was ranked 307th in the Parent Power 2023 table. It has 1,524 pupils with 36.4% achieving level 7 - 9 which is equivalent to an A or A* grade.

4. Wellsway School
Wellsway School was ranked 325th in the Parent Power 2023 table. It has 1,311 pupils with 30.5% achieving level 7 - 9 which is equivalent to an A or A* grade.
