Tiny Bristol tapas bar named best place for paella in the UK

Tomorrow (March 27) is National Paella Day, a celebration of the famous Spanish rice dish, which originated in its modern form in the mid-19th century in Valencia.

Ahead of the celebrations, online gambling company Betaway carried out a study to find out the top ten best paella spots in the UK.

The research looked at over 40 of the highest-rated paella spots across major cities in the UK and Ireland, which were then ranked in an index based on their average Google review rating and the percentage of their Tripadvisor reviews that are five and four stars.

Bristol's El Rincon in Southville ranked first place with an average Google review rating of 4.8 out of five, 52.94% of five-star and 23.53% four-star Tripadvisor reviews and an overall index score of 64.40 out of 100.

El Rincon on North Street serves authentic Spanish food and Iberian wines as well as running language classes and live music.

Edinburgh's tapas3 and Liverpool's Salt House Tapas followed with an average Google review rating of 4.7 out of 5, 90.46% of five-star and 4% 4-star Tripadvisor reviews and 4.6 out of five, 61.98% of five-star and 24.2% four-star Tripadvisor reviews respectively.
