11 photos of the village farm near Bristol where you can pick your own pumpkins

There’s a large variety on offer, including white ‘ghost’ pumpkins and knobby ‘knuckleheads’

A farm in a village near Bristol is gearing up for its annual pumpkin picking festival.

The family behind Farrington’s at Farrington Gurney planted thousands of pumpkin seeds in the spring and they have been growing all summer in readiness for the festival, which is always the farm’s most popular event of the year.

“Our mission is to give people a proper pumpkin picking experience as it should be, with all the pumpkins in the patch grown right here on our farm,” says Farrington’s Erin Jeffrey.

“We grow a huge variety including the classic orange ‘Cinderella’ pumpkins, white ‘ghost’ pumpkins, knobbly ‘knucklehead’ pumpkins, tasty crown prince and lots more.”

Visitors to the pumpkin festival can grab a wheelbarrow to explore the huge 12-acre pumpkin patch next month and tickets are selling fast already.

The dates for pumpkin picking are: October 6-8, 13-15 and 19-29. Tickets are £3 per person, with under-2s, dogs and on-duty carers allowed in for free.

The ticket includes entrance to the Pumpkin Patch, displays, entrance to the carving space and parking. Your ticket does not include a pumpkin but you can purchase as many pumpkins as you like on the day.

As it’s an outdoor event in all weathers, the fields can get muddy after the rain so people are advised to wear long trousers, long-sleeved tops and wellies.

Well-behaved dogs on leads are allowed in the Pumpkin Patch.
