The Queens pub in Chew Magna may be only 20 minutes from Bristol but it is surrounded by countryside and feels like one of those ‘hidden gem’ pubs in the middle of nowhere.

Next week, the pub launches it brand new summer menu to coincide with their second birthday.

Boasting four beautifully decorated guest rooms, as well as a suntrap garden, the pub serves a range of locally sourced beers and it’s the perfect destination for a summertime pint at the end of a walk or cycle ride.

The team behind the pub took on The Queens in 2019, and spent eight months renovating it to the highest standards but its launch was delayed due to the pandemic.

It marks its second birthday on Thursday (June 22), with an open-to-all birthday party including music from local musicians, a darts tournament and the unveiling of their new menu.

The new menu has been created by head chef Jordan Meagher, alongside his brother and senior sous chef Jack.

It showcases the best of seasonal, local produce from suppliers such as the Story Group, W J Pearce & Sons Butchers, Green Acres Farm and Conscious Food.

Dishes are designed for sharing, including a range of small plates alongside pub classics and a wide vegan and vegetarian offering.

Speaking about the pub’s second birthday and the new menu launch, Jordan said: “It’s been amazing to see our visitor numbers grow since opening just as the lockdown had lifted, and we’ve loved meeting more and more customers who are coming from further afield to visit.

“Our birthday party is a chance to say thank you to everyone for their support, and seemed like the perfect time to launch our brand new menu.

“From delicious small plates, perfect for sharing over a bottle of wine in the garden, through to our classics such as our 7oz cheeseburger, we’re so proud of the new menu and can’t wait to share it with everyone.”

The Queens are now taking bookings online and on the phone for diners who are looking to visit over their birthday weekend from June 22-25, and are offering a complimentary glass of fizz to any dinner tables booked for those dates before Wednesday (June 21). Bookings can be made on their website.
