The manager of The Galleries in Bristol says the shopping centre may not be back open for another day due to an ongoing power supply issue.

Centre manager David Wait said the shopping centre in Broadmead will remain closed for the rest of today (Monday, October 16) as engineers continue to try to resolve the power cut.

The outage has impacted a large section of the shopping centre and the car park, as well as a number of businesses attached to The Galleries including Santander bank and Boots, which remain closed.

Mr Wait told Bristol World: “It has taken part of the centre out and part of the car park out so for the safety of customers and retailers, we’re not open while the issue is being fixed.

“We have engineers on site and we’re trying to fix it as soon as possible but it’s challenging. We’ll open as soon as we can because we don’t want to cause any disruption.

“Unfortunately, it looks like it will run into Tuesday, too, but we’ll let people know as soon as we can.

“In my four years at The Galleries, it’s the first time I’ve seen an issue like this. The last thing we want to do is close because it disrupts customers and retailers.

“Unfortunately, Boots and Santander have had to close, as well as the Post Office inside WH Smith.”
