Seven Bristol pubs have been added to the annual Good Beer Guide released by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
The 2023 guide offers an insight into some of the finest pubs, bars and clubs around the country by highlighting venues selected by its members “as places to savour good beers from small breweries as well as cask-conditioned lagers and world beers and some pubs are highlighted for serving real ciders too”.
The guide consists of 103 entries from Bristol and Gloucestershire, here are the seven Bristol pubs to be added in the 50th edition of the guide and what CAMRA said about each of them.

2. The Llandoger Trow, King Street
CAMRA said: “Architecturally important and impressive historic pub in which tradition has it Daniel Defoe met Alexander Selkirk, who became the inspiration for Robinson Crusoe, and which was also the inspiration for The Admiral Benbow pub in Stephenson’s Treasure Island. Reopened in June 2021 after being closed for over two years it has been reinvented as an alehouse whilst retaining its dignified charm with distinct drinking areas. Five changing cask ales are served along with 28 keg lines, from UK and overseas breweries, including an interesting selection from Germany, as well as a couple of real ciders. Thursday is techno music night from 8pm and the toilets may be made unisex for these events."
3. The Robin Hood, Kingsdown
CAMRA said: “Originally a grocer’s but a licensed premises since 1841, this Grade II-listed pub has a lovely arched-window frontage. Inside there are wood-panelled walls and others with murals by local artists, and predominantly wooden flooring and furniture. At the front of the building there is a small outdoor area, with a ‘hidden’ outdoor area at the rear. Popular with students and university staff, the pub has a contemporary feel to it. Six brightly coloured hand pumps, serve brews from local breweries, as well as from breweries further afield. Five keg taps also serve beers from local breweries such as Basement Brewery (brewed by the owner of the Robin Hood), Good Chemistry and Lost and Grounded. A fridge containing interesting beers includes a range of Belgian ales. Quiz night is on Wednesdays and a pull-down screen at the back of the pub shows selective sports events."
4. The Green Man, Kingsdown
CAMRA said: “This small grade II-listed Dawkins pub, licensed since 1851, in a heritage listed street with many fine Georgian buildings in Kingsdown, offers a selection of cask beers from local breweries. West Country ciders are sold too, as well as local keg beers and a large range of gins. The pub hosts regular live music and a quiz every Wednesday. The pub is furnished in a green theme, with wooden panelling throughout. There is a small patio to the rear for smokers. Off-Sales also available."
