The annual Insider South West Rich List is dominated by Bristol business leaders and entrepreneurs.
Each year, the magazine delves into the net worth of the region’s wealthiest people and ranks them in order from one to 100.
There are some familiar names and companies on this year’s list, including Martin Thatcher whose family runs Thatchers cider and Tim Mead and family of Yeo Valley fame.
You can find the full list via the Insider website and here are the top 12 business leaders from Bristol featured on the list.
2. Peter Hargreaves
2022: £1.743bn | 2021: £2.375bn - Hargreaves’ Blue Whale Capital has had a turbulent year. Although he and his co-founder Stephen Yiu had attracted more than £1bn of investment by late 2021, the fund plunged by 30 per cent in the first half of this year as many of the US tech stocks they had invested in lost value. Lancashire-born Hargreaves has also seen the value of his stake in Hargreaves Lansdown fall. That holding is now worth £747.7m – down £664.3m over the past year.
3. Steve Lansdown
2022: £1.301bn | 2021: £1.48bn - Lansdown took control of Bristol City Football Club 20 years ago and served as chairman for nearly a decade. The Guernsey-based billionaire also owns the women’s football team, as well as basketball and rugby clubs in the city. Lansdown was one half of the double act that set up Hargreaves Lansdown in 1981, alongside Peter Hargreaves. He still owns 5.71 per cent of the Bristol-based investment giant – a stake worth £213m, down £194.1m over the past year.
4. Andrew Nisbet & family
2022: £431m | 2021: £425m - Nisbet’s catering supplies business sells more than 35,000 types of products online or through stores. The Bristol-based retailer now has more than 2,000 staff and offices around the world. Profits at holding company Key West fell to £8.7m but the Nisbets should still be worth £431m.
